Plastic parts machining
What are the capabilities and limitations of plastic machining?
Plastic is a relatively easy material to machine, machining is done on multi-axis, high-speed machining centres, parts can be produced quickly and made with precision with tight tolerances.
Unlike plastic injection moulding, plastic machining does not requires draft angles and does not involve material shrinking. This reduce the risk of deformation.
Threads can be directly machined directly into the parts without the need to add threaded inserts.
On the other side, machining of plastic parts will become costly for high-quantities batches and slower than plastic injection moulding. Futhermore the aspect of the finished parts may not be as smooth as moulded ones.

Why produce plastic parts by machining?
- Simple machining operations, such as cutting, drilling and bending, can be performed on plates, sheets and profiles.
- -Plastic machining is suitable for specific shapes that are difficult to produce by injection moulding, such as parts with several material thicknesses.
- -Suitable for small production quantities.
